Drew Estate’s Liga Privada Unico Serie Year of the Rat is emerging from its lair for a second time in 2022. Announced during the Sept. 28 “Freestyle Live: Special Edition” broadcast, the 2022 limited edition Year of the Rat will be available exclusively at Drew Diplomat Program partners beginning in mid-October.

Initially released in 2016 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Florid Panthers’ only National Hockey League Stanley Cup Finals appearance, the Liga Privada Unico Serie Year of the Rat honors a memorable moment during that season when the team’s Scott Mellanby killed a rat in the locker room with his hockey stick before scoring two goals in the game. Dubbing Mellanby’s achievement “The Rat Trick,” Panthers’ fans soon began tossing rubber rats onto the ice to celebrate their team’s goals. Originally available only at the Drew Estate Lounge inside the Panther’s BB&T Center, Liga Privada Unico Serie Year of the Rat returned in 2020 as a Drew Diplomat Program event exclusive cigar before becoming available to all Drew Diplomat Program participants in 2021. This year marks the first time that Drew Estate is releasing Year of the Rat in both the Spring and Fall.

“The Rat infestation is back for a second time this year and all you Dirties are going to get another chance to get your claws on them,” says Jonathan Drew, Founder and President of Drew Estate. “You’ll be singing Slick Rick, drying your crying eyes if you sleep on ‘em.”

Made using a luscious dark Connecticut Broadleaf capa, a deeply rich and flavorful Brazilian capote and hearty Nicaraguan and Honduran tripa tobaccos, Year of the Rat (5 1⁄2 x 46, Corona Gorda) features Liga Privada Unico Serie’s iconic fantail head. Packaged in beautifully embossed blue 10- count Liga Privada Unico boxes, every Year of the Rat cigar is individually wrapped in gold foil.

The Fall release of the 2022 Liga Privada Unico Serie Year of the Rat will be available exclusively to Drew Diplomat Program partners beginning in mid-October. The limited-edition cigars’ MSRP will be $17.12 per cigar/$171.20 per box.
